Japanese silver Ichi Bu minted 1846-1869

Custom mounted into a 14k yellow gold bezel pendant, measuring approximately 1 and 1/2 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom of the bezel, ¾ of an inch across.

In 1853 during Emperor Komei's rule, Commodore Matthew Perry of the United States sailed into Edo Bay and demanded that Japan do business with the Western World. The Tokugawa Shogun preferred that the social and political order in Japan remain as it had been for the previous 250 years, ruling the country with the Samurai, and prohibiting mobility between the social classes.
