Taras (Tarentum) - Calabria silver Nomos minted circa 400-200 BC.

  • Obverse: Taras, son of Posideon, astride dolphin swimming left, holding a trident. Legend TAPAS below.
  • Reverse: Naked horseman riding galloping horse, holding a spear.

Custom set into a sterling silver bezel pendant, measuring approximately 1 1/4 inch from the top of the bail to the bottom of the bezel, 1 inch across.

Taras (Tarentum) was a colony founded by Sparta circa 708 BC and was conquered by Rome circa 272 BC.
