Made by Horstmann in Philadelphia in 1848 or shortly thereafter.

Signed on the blade: W.H. Horstmann & Sons Philadelphia

Few of these were made and they have a low survival rate.

The blade was originally covered in blue with gold wash but age and rust damage has taken much of that away.

The handle is covered in sharkskin (about 90% remaining) along with 100% of its original brass wire wrapping. The brass hand guard goes all of the way around from its inception into the eagle's mouth at the pommel.

The brass handle is loose with a noticeable wobble.
